Hrithik Roshan recently completed 25 years in the industry (as leading man), and he is set now to write a new chapter in his career. Hrithik will make his directorial debut with Krrish 4. While each previous film was directed by his father, Rakesh Roshan, all rumors about who will direct the new film are settled now! 20 years before his debut as hero, he had made his first screen appearance as a child artiste in Aasha (1980) and Aap Ke Deewane later the same year.
Hrithik himself follows the footsteps of his father by turning director. And the bigger scoop is that this new film, however, will be co-produced by Aditya Chopra’s Yash Raj Films along with Rakesh Roshan’s Filmkraft Productions! Hrithik has already worked with YRF on the high-profile Dhoom: 2 and War with a cameo in Tiger 3 of his War character, Kabir. In 2002, he had acted in Mujhse Dosti Karoge! as well.
The Krrish franchise began with Koi…Mil Gaya in 2003, followed by Krrish (2006) and Krrish 3 (2013). Krrish 4 was announced first a few years ago, and Filmkraft, at one point, had even hinted at making Krrish 4 and Krrish 5 simultaneously.
Rakesh Roshan took to Instagram posting a picture with Hrithik. “Duggu 25yrs back I launched you as an actor, and today again after 25 years you are being launched as a director by two filmmakers Aditya Chopra & myself to take forward our most ambitious film #Krrish4. Wish you all the success in this new avatar with good wishes and blessings.” Hrithik’s girlfriend, Saba Azad, later added heart emojis under the post.
In a statement to Variety, Rakesh Roshan said, “I’m passing the baton of the director of Krrish 4 to my son, Hrithik Roshan, who has lived, breathed and dreamt about this franchise since its inception with me. Hrithik has a clear and a very ambitious vision of taking Krrish’s journey forward with the audience for the next decade. I couldn’t be prouder to see him wear the director’s hat for a film that means the world to us as a family.”
Aditya Chopra and Hrithik Roshan are currently also working on War 2, the latest instalment in their Spy Universe directed by Ayan Mukerji. The film is expected to release in late 2025. Rakesh revealed that it was Aditya who had convinced Hrithik to take up direction. “It brings me so much joy to see someone like Adi as the producer of Krrish 4. Adi and Yash Raj Films have the knowledge, understanding and technological might to produce this film and add great value to this project. Hrithik (Roshan) and Adi (Chopra) coming together on Krrish 4 as a producer-director pair with me behind them is a rare and deliciously creative combination!” he said. The film will go on floors in early 2026. The pre-production work is going full throttle.
“Krrish has entertained audiences the world over and Hrithik will now reveal the next chapters of this superhero saga and take the vision I created so many years ago to greater heights,” added the proud father.
The film will also mark the return of Jadoo to the franchise, 22 years after Koi…Mil Gaya. It will also mark the comeback of composer Rajesh Roshan, Hrithik’s uncle, to the banner almost five decades after Doosara Aadmi (1977) and Kaala Patthar (1979), both hit soundtracks.
