A California university signs exchange agreement with IIT  Madras

Cal State University San Bernardino (CSUSB) and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) recently signed an agreement aimed at fostering educational and cultural ties, promoting research collaboration, and strengthening ties between the two institutions.

The agreement, in the form of an MoU, outlines cooperation in several areas, including study abroad programs for students, partnerships in academic programs, short-term academic and language programs, exchange of faculty members and joint research activities, an October 20, 2023, press release from CSUSB said.

The heads of both institutions, CSUSB President Tomás D. Morales, and IIT Madras Director Professor V. Kamakoti, echoed each other’s views, calling the MoU a significant milestone offering opportunities to enrich learning and provide opportunities to students.

The agreement became effective upon its mutual signing and will be implemented for an initial period of five years. It may be renewed for an additional five years, subject to review.

Both institutions also emphasized their commitment to flexibility, with the ability to modify the agreement upon mutual agreement between academic and administrative representatives.

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras, based in Chennai, is renowned for its contributions to education and research, and  recognized as one of India’s premier institutions, fostering a culture of innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration and excellence in technology and science.

Similarly, CSUSB is considered a preeminent center of intellectual and cultural activity in Inland Southern California. Opened in 1965, the university serves more than 20,000 students each year and graduates about 4,000 students annually.
