Indian American scientist recognized by American Oil Chemist Society

Raj Shah, PhD, director at Koehler Instrument Company, NY, was honored recently with the AOCS Fellow Award at the 2024 American Oil Chemists’ Society (AOCS) meeting in Montrea where he was recognized “for his extraordinary achievements in oils, fats, and surfactants research.”

While he could not attend, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to mentors, colleagues, and Koehler management for their unwavering support. Dr. Sevim Erhan, a long-standing mentor, accepted the award on his behalf, a press release from Shah said.

Other awards that Shah has earned include being named a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (IOP), Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), and Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). Each fellowship highlights his contributions to clean energy, lubricants, and sustainable technology, the press release said. Dr. Shah also holds several certifications, including Chartered Engineer (CEng) from the UK’s Engineering Council, Certified Professional Chemist (CPC), Certified Chemical Engineer (CCHE), and Chartered Scientist (CSci).

Most recently, he was awarded the Clarence E. Earle Memorial and Golden Grease Gun Awards from the National Lubricating Grease Institute (NLGI) for his co-edited NLGI Grease Handbook with Bill Tuszynski, which he describes as a cornerstone publication for the industry.

According to the press release, Shah has more than 675 published works and numerous professional fellowships, spanning scientific research, mentorship, and standards in petroleum and lubricant technologies.
