NYU graduate Rishabh Jain wins Student Academy Award for “A Dream Called Khushi”

This September 17, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, awarded Rishabh Raj Jain, a graduate of the New York University journalism program, the Student Academy Award (press.oscars.org).

Jain received the Bronze Medal in the “Documentary category, which was presented this Oct. 14, 2024, in London, UK. The awards were presented at a ceremony held at the ODEON Luxe Leicester Square.

Jain’s documentary, entitled “A Dream Called Khushi” tells the story of a Rohingya refugee who, against all odds, fights for education in Bangladesh camps. When she meets Associated Press journalist Rishab Jain, her story ignites public outrage, revealing her resilience and the plight of the refugees who were being denied their basic rights. Dreaming of a life in Canada, where she can study, will Khushi be the one in a million to break free? – says a summary of the documentary on journalism.nyu.edu.

Jain received his journalism degree from the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute’s News and Documentary program. The NYU press release noted that 11 of its students had won Student Academy award medals to date.
