The Consul General of India in New York Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, will inaugurate the sixth International Hindi Conference, Americas, on October 25, 2024, at the Indian Consulate in New York City.

This year’s conference “aims at suggesting ways to expanding and strengthening the field of Hindi instruction around the world,” according to a press release from Hindi Sangam Foundation, the main organizer, in collaboration with the Indian Consulate.

A number of Hindi experts and university teachers from various parts of USA and India have agreed to attend the conference. They will present their work and discuss latest innovations in Hindi learning. The academic sessions/panels will be held on the second day of the conference that will end with a Hindi play directed by a NJ based theatre company, Prayog.

This is the third event of its kind to be held in the Consulate premises in about 8 years. The first one, known as, the third international Hindi conference,  was held at the consulate in 2016.

“The sequence was interrupted because of the onslaught of  Covid pandemic. HSF organized the Fifth International Hindi Conference conference in 2023, which was inaugurated by the then Consul General Randhir Jaiswal”, said Ashok Ojha, president of the foundation and coordinator of the Sixth International Hindi Conference.

“We are very thankful to the Consul-General Honorable Binaya Srikanta Pradhan, for maintaining the sequence and allowing us to hold this event on a yearly basis,” Ojha added.

Based in New Jersey, HSF was established in 2015. It organized the first such conference in collaboration with New York University, and the second International Hindi conference was organized in collaboration with Rutgers University, New Jersey in 2015. The third conference moved to Vishakhapatnam, India, a non-Hindi region of India, where it was hosted by GITAM University in 2017. The Consulate General of India in New York hosted the fourth one in 2016.

This year’s conference is supported by leading US universities, such as, Columbia, New York University, Michigan State University, and community organizations like New York based Shikshayatan, Sriniketan, Akhil Vishwa Hindi Samiti and more.

Dr. Bijoy Mehta, chairperson of the Samiti and a noted Hindi poet will preside over a Kavi Sammelan on the inaugural day. Other notable community leaders supporting the conference include former NJ Assemblyman Upendra Chivukula, Purnima Desai, Piyush Patel, and Mukund Thakkar.

An academic committee headed by Professor Gabriela Nik Ilieva, NYU, selected the panels and presentations for which entries from language professionals from USA and India were received. Details about the conference may be viewed at https://21stcenturyhindi.com/ihc-2024
