Second Serve, a San Diego-based, youth-run non-profit, is gearing up for a week full of donations across the nation during its 1st Annual Impact Week. From September 22-28, Second Serve’s team will have thousands of items to donate nationwide.

These donations include tennis equipment such as rackets, shoes, bags, and uniforms, a press release from Second Serve (secondserve.org) said.

Dedicated to creating greater access, inclusion, and diversity within tennis, during Impact Week, Second Serve’s entire team of regional presidents will donate to their local recipient site.

To create maximum impact, they have created a growing team of over 250 young leaders between the ages of 12 and 17. Each of the team members collects and distributes donations both locally and internationally.

Second Serve empowers these youngsters to grow into leaders by creating service opportunities, Second Serve said.

The young leaders of the organization have been preparing for the event since June, meeting benchmarks, connecting with partners, and collecting their equipment.

Though each donation will look a little different, the goal is for each team member to visit the partner site with other volunteers, host a clinic for the kids, and build relationships with the beneficiaries of the donation, organizers said, adding, that this is much more than just redistribution of material items, “It’s also a sharing of passion and character with the children.”

Over 50 of Second Serve’s members have joined the initiative.

They have collected thousands of pieces of equipment from around the nation, from Houston to Salt Lake City to St. Louis.

To inaugurate Second Serve Impact Week in Southern California, CEO Ayanna Shah and National President Amani Shah will visit Title-1 High Schools near Compton, California.

The sisters will be visiting 6 high schools in person on September 15th and 16th to deliver equipment, meet the teams, and deepen relationships with the schools.

“We’re so proud to be celebrating 5 years of our mission to help thousands of children gain access to the sport,” said CEO of Second Serve, Ayanna Shah. “We hope that Impact Week will inspire teens and others to make a difference in their communities. To say that we are grateful is an understatement. Thank you to everyone who has supported us, and continue to do so year after year, as many of our donors do.”

Second Serve donates to a multitude of low-income communities throughout the United States and around the world at large. They support children who have a passion for tennis within Mexico, Uganda, India, Nigeria, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Haiti, Zimbabwe, US Virgin Islands, and more.
