Title-track of Ishq Vishk Rebound launched at youthful event

It seems like in this scorching heat, the official season of love has begun! The recent teaser release of Tips Films’ Ishq Vishk Rebound has sent waves of excitement through the audience especially as it gave a glimpse of the iconic Ishq vishk pyaar vyaar written by Sameer Anjaan and composed by Anu Malik 21 years ago! On May 21, the makers launched the title-track song exactly a month away from the film’s release on June 21 in theatres. The film is a sequel in spirit to Tips Films’ 2003 hit Ishq Vishk, even now recalled for its amazing songs, and for launching Shahid Kapoor, Amrita Rao and Shenaz Treasurywala.

Kick-starting with the first event in Mumbai, lead artistes Rohit Saraf, Pashmina Roshan, Jibraan Khan and Naila Grrewal danced and taught the hook-step to media personnel who had come to cheer them on.

The re-creation, Ishq vishq pyaar vyaar, is now re-composed by Rochak Kohli, penned by Gurpreet Saini and sung by Sonu Nigam (the original singer with Alisha Chinoy) with Nikhita Gandhi and Mellow D. As a nod to the original song, choreographer Vijay Ganguly has retained the hook-step conceptualized by Ahmed Khan. The anchor, ironically as it were, kept on repeating that after a long time, there was a “proper Hindi film song”. Yeah, bro, you are right! It’s been a year since Gadar 2—almost!

Since Sonu Nigam is currently touring, he sent a special message for the team. In his absence, Rochak sang the song live with Nikhita Gandhi and Mellow D.

Starring Rohit Saraf, Pashmina Roshan, Jibraan Khan, and Naila Grrewal, the film’s story revolves around modern love, relationships and friendships and coins a new word, “situationship”.

Produced by Ramesh Taurani and his daughter Jaya Taurani, and directed by Nipun Avinash Dharmadhikari, the film introduces to the screen four bright new talents.

Rohit Saraf, who made his film debut with a supporting role in Dear Zindagi (2016) has done regional films, TV, the web series Mismatched and a Norwegian film, What Will People Say? (2017). Hichki (2018), The Sky Is Pink (2019), Ludo (2020), and Vikram Vedha (2022) include his other work on the big screen, while this is his lead debut.

Pashmina Roshan is the daughter of veteran composer Rajesh Roshan and thus the granddaughter of the legendary music director, Roshan. She is the niece of filmmaker-actor Rakesh Roshan and first cousin to Hrithik Roshan.

I asked her whether she would like to work on a re-creation of one of her father’s compositions. Her reply was Jab chhaye mera jadoo, which was his chartbuster from the 1980 Lootmaar.

Jibraan Khan is the cute child star, who played Shah Rukh Khan’s and Kajol’s son in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…, and did a few more films and a TV series. He is also the son of Arjun a.k.a. Firoz Khan, who played Arjun in B.R. Chopra’s original TV epic, Mahabharat. He has also worked with Shiamak Davar as a student and then as instructor, and so has choreographer Vijay Ganguly, he stated.

Neila Grrewal, who worked in a supporting role earlier with Rohit in Dear Maya (2017), made her debut in a small role in Tamasha and was also known for her short appearance in Bareilly Ki Barfi and a few other films.

And so, all these youngsters are late 1990s kids who have grown up on the hit song whose recreation they have now had the good fortune to enact. They all said that it was a dream-come-true kind of situation for all of them.

Asked to mention their fave romance, Jibraan opted for Veer-Zaara, Pashmina for Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Naila for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara as it was about both travel and love. Rohit declared that it was his parents’ love story that inspired him the most.

Ramesh Taurani stated that his daughter Jaya deserved the lion’s share of the credit for the new film as she had worked the hardest on it at all levels. Asked by this writer about how he chose his most youthful production to make a sequel and how love has changed over 21 years, he stated that what he liked about the today generation is that if a relationship is not working, they move on. That had something good in it, as they are not affected by the break.

I also asked why he had signed Nipun Avinash Dharmadhikari, a Marathi film stalwart who has helmed, among others, the recent Marathi film, Mee Vasantrao, Taurani replied that he was impressed by his work and that Nipun had also helped on the script. The director was not around as he was traveling.
