The Boca Raton Museum of Art unveiled its newest exhibition Sri Prabha: Resonator-Reanimator which opened on June 14, 2023 and will be on view until October 22, 2023.

Sri Prabha, born in Hyderabad, moved to the United States in 1978 and currently resides in Fort Lauderdale.  The press release reported that Prabha has mixed “Vedic eastern philosophies” with “western science” in his artwork.

Sri Prabha: Resonator-Reanimator is described as a walk-through multi-sensory experience in the press release.  The exhibit  includes “mixed media, video, soundscapes and audio frequencies, light projections, interactive structures, traditional Indian sari fabrics, abstract paintings, digital print collages, assemblages, and more.”

In a profile done on Prabha for PBS Television, he spoke about trying to imagine how multiple people who view his installations would interact with the artwork and what they could take away from the experience.  Prabha talked about knowing far in advance how the artwork would look but never fully knowing how it would be received by the audience.

In the press release, Irvin Lippman, the museum’s Executive Director, said, “Sri Prabha brings to light the tools of perception; and visitors who experience this tour de force at the Boca Raton Museum of Art will find an imaginative, multi-sensory panorama of art.”

The press release also quotes Prabha saying, “The idea is for people to go through a portal and realize we are more similar than different, that all of these elements floating around space came together and created us.  We are all interconnected, and we can change our behavior to work together and collaborate. As civilizations, we like to think that we are different from each other, but we are really not. Our technology is changing rapidly, but our behavior has not kept up.”

Prabha’s art has been on display in a multitude of cities including New York, Washington DC, Seattle, Copenhagen, Toronto, San Francisco, Miami, and more. At his Miami display, Prabha was one of the winners of the 2022 Art Basel Miami Beach public art showcase with his piece Cosmic Occupancy.

Prabha’s main focus in his pieces is how humans interact with the environment.  In the profile, he further described his process, addressing how the videos used in his piece are pieces of long footage he recorded in nature combined with software animation to make a more surreal experience.  He also explored one particular piece that tied each of the “five eastern elements” to modern environmental issues.

When asked about Sri Prabha, Boca Raton resident and senior at West Boca Regional High School Kasper Shroff told News India Times, “I’ve seen his stuff online.  The art is really powerful, and I’m excited to see it in person.  Being able to see a fellow Indian American artist here in Boca makes me really thrilled.”

For those like Shroff, who are eager to witness Prabha’s showcase, the exhibit at the Boca Raton Museum of Art at 501 Plaza Real, Boca Raton, FL.  According to the museum’s website, the event’s curator is Associate Curator Kelli Bodle and the adult price for entry is $16, with children and high school students having free entry.
