Farzi trailer promises a thriller with a difference

It is a cinch that Farzi will hit the bull’s-eye as a thriller with a difference.

Raj & DK’s latest enterprise, after the Family Man franchise, is their third outing with Amazon Prime Video and its trailer was launched with much fanfare at Mumbai’s Grand Hyatt Hotel last weekend.  The show features Shahid Kapoor, Vijay Sethupati from the South (Raj & DK tend to mix the ensemble cast, as with their earlier espionage franchise), Raashii Khanna and Amol Palekar among others.

Also present were Bhuvan Arora, who plays a key role, writers Sita Menon and Suman Kumar and Sushant Sreeram, head of SVOD (Subscription video on demand) business, Prime Video, and Aparna Purohit, head of India Originals, Prime Video.

As with such launches, everyone heaped praises on each other. Amol Palekar stated that working with the young team was a “great pleasure” and lauded Raj & DK for their acumen and seriousness about handling a story that was very different.

Shahid Kapoor addressed Vijay as “Sir”, negating buzz he was unhappy with the team and platform giving greater importance to his Southern co-star. Raashii Khanna raved about all, while Vijay Sethupati, making his Hindi (and OTT) debut, spoke about how he knew some Hindi and the fact that he had to mention that he was working with Shahid, and also as villain in Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan and as hero to Katrina Kaif in Sriram Raghavan’s Merry Christmas, to make a mark among audiences outside the South! Incidentally, the series also marks Shahid’s entry into the OTT space.

The two heroes made their entries respectively on a bike and by smashing the glass of a cash scanner machine. Vijay plays a cop, while Shahid plays a ‘have-not’ who plans to become rich by manufacturing counterfeit Rs. 500 notes as he is an artist. Amol Palekar plays his righteous grandfather and Bhuvan Roy his friend. Kubbra Sait, Kay Kay Menon, Zakir Hussain and Regina Cassandra play key roles.

All in all, the trailer promises a thriller with a difference that looks at the social system in India. The eight-episode crime drama streams February 10 in over 240 countries and is filmed in both Hindi and Tamil. The trailers were shown in both languages.
