Indian-American lawmaker draws attention to Chinese buildup on Indian border

Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Illinois, drew attention Nov. 30, 2022, to the Chinese Peoples Liberation Army constructing a military outpost on the India-China border, and urged Washington to expand its security and intelligence cooperation with India.   Krishnamoorthi is a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

Rep. Krishnamoorthi was responding to a new report carried in the news outlet Politico Nov. 29, with the headline, “China built new military post near disputed Indian border, satellite images show.”

According to the report, the new military outpost is being constructed at Pangong Tso, a lake extending across the Line of Actual Control between the People’s Republic of China and India.

“The report of a new People’s Liberation Army outpost near the Line of Actual Control between Indian and the People’s Republic of China is another disturbing sign of Beijing’s growing regional aggression, reinforcing the need for the United States to reaffirm and strengthen joint efforts with India and other security partners,” Krishnamoorthi said.

“As the Chinese Communist Party’s domestic repression, brutal persecution of Uyghurs, and online misinformation efforts continue to escalate, so too do the signs of its growing international military aggression stretching from India to the Taiwan Strait,” the Indian-American Congressman said.

“In the face of these belligerent ambitions, it is imperative that the United States maintains and expands our security and intelligence cooperation with allies and partners to send the clear messages that the United States stands with India, Taiwan, and democracies across the region in the face of the Chinese Communist Party’s rising aggression.”
