The Chicago Sun-Times, one of two reigning newspapers in Chicagoland apart from the Chicago Tribune, announced it is endorsing Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Illinois, for the Nov. 3, 2020 elections. Krishnamoorthi, the first Indian-American to go to Capitol Hill from Illinois, is running for his third term.

“Though first elected to Congress just four years ago, Raja Krishnamoorthi of Schaumburg has been among the more industrious members of the House, and he’s a cut above many other members of the Illinois delegation. Should the chips fall right, he could make an excellent senator some day,” the paper said in its endorsement.

The paper called him “the scourge” of the vaping industry who may have contributed to the decrease in use of e-cigarettes and related vaping products by young people. It also lauded his emphasis on skills-based training for youth who are not college-bound, and for making college more affordable.

Krishnamoorthi does not have a strong opponent. Currently, only Preston Gabriel Nelson, a Libertarian, who describes himself as an ‘inventor’ is registered to run.
