Fourth Virtual Meeting of MySangi, NJ

MySangi a non-profit organization based in New Jersey and focused on creating a support system (excluding match-making) for those of Indian origin 50 years of age and older, held its 4th virtual meeting via video conferencing Aug. 23, 2020.

The focus of the event was to help members connect with each other and keep their minds off the current pandemic crisis. This time the speaker an expert on health care, spoke on Medicare, Healthcare and Social Security programs and benefits available on reaching retirement age, a press release from MySangi said.

Rajul Shah, president and founder of MySangi welcomed returning and first time participants, including those joining from India. A prayer jumpstarted the meeting by Dr. Jayshree Winters, board of advisors coordinator.

Dr. Kanan Patrawalla, vice president introduced the guest speaker, Gautam Shah, a licensed independent insurance agent with over 20 plus years of experience on health care insurance, Medicare and Social Security programs and other related products. He presented an overview of the various programs including the original Medicare Part A – Hospital insurance Part B – Medical Insurance, Part D – Prescription drug coverage and Medicare Advantage, also known as Part C.

He discussed in depth the coverage, benefits, and premiums for all these programs. He presented various supplemental insurance plans available in the marketplace and answered questions from participants.

He also discussed assisted care and long-term care plans and recommended setting up personal meetings with an agent for selecting and tailoring a program to suit the needs of the beneficiary. He discussed the Social Security program including eligibility, enrollment, and individual and spousal benefits.

The talk was well received by participants, organizers said.

A virtual social intermingling and discussion followed on programs offered by local Senior Centers, town libraries as well as attending classes offered in State Colleges and on line.
