Neeta Jain elected President of Daniel Patrick Moynihan Democratic Club of Queens

The Daniel Patrick Moynihan Democratic Club of Queens has named Dr. Neeta Jain as its President in an installation ceremony held on November 21, 2019, at the Hill Crest Jewish Center, in Queens, NY.

Jain was installed by Congressman Gregory W Meeks, the chairman of the Democratic organization of Queens. The emcee of the evening was NYC Council member Rory Lancman, Chairman of the Club, according to a press release.

The elected officials who attended the ceremony included: Congresswoman Grace Meng, Queens Borough President and DA elect Melinda Katz, NYS Senator John C. Liu, NYS Assemblyman David Weprin, NYC Council member Barry Grodenchik, and NYC Council member Donovan Richards.

The Pledge of Allegiance was by Shruti Goyal, followed by Star Spangled Banner by Mei Rhu, and the opening prayer was performed by Dr. Krishna Pratap Dixit, Head Priest, Hindu Center of Flushing.

Jain in her opening remarks acknowledged all elected officials who were present at the ceremony for their time and support to reestablished The Daniel Patrick Moynihan Democratic Club.

She said that “This ceremony is a tribute to my father as he always encouraged me to serve the community I live in.”

“A Democratic Club has many responsibilities, including supporting good Democratic candidates in all levels of public office (federal, state, and local levels) and to promote civic engagement,” she said.

Jain reiterated that “with this club I would like to encourage more young people to involve themselves in the electoral process and be more engaged in the civic and political life of our great city.”

She ended her remarks with a quote from late Senator Moynihan, which is: “What is not discussed will not be advanced.”

Meeks, in his speech, said: “…When I look at you I see the people from all over the world. People of color and that’s what America is all about. Different ethnicity, background, culture, faith, beliefs and yet we all are here in this room. We can understand and benefit from each other. Queens has a unique responsibility because of its diversity. We need you, Neeta Jain needs you. We can achieve all of this because of your help, conviction, sacrifice, and your hard work and put all behind this great leader. Freedom is not free. There is a cost to it. Thank you for being here, and being behind this great leader Neeta Jain.”

Meng praised Jain for her work and dedication in the South Asian community: “I am so proud of Dr. Neeta Jain. She is always been here for many of us, always stepped up to help if anyone in the community is in need. You can ask anyone in this room, thru out the borough and beyond. She has ways the first one to help us out.”

Liu said in his remarks: “It’s a great day and celebration for Dr. Neeta Jain. She got here old fashioned way, you earned this day. Our family stands behind each other. It’s a great day for this community and Neeta Jain family. This club needs such leadership. We are a happy family here. Dr. Jain has given so much of her life and her work for South Asian community. So many things you have done and you will do in the future for this community and no matter what happens, people respect that,” he concluded.

Jain is the only Indian-American female elected official in New York City. She is a Democratic District Leader for Assembly District 25 Part B in Queens, which includes Flushing, Kew Gardens Hills, Hillcrest and Hillside Avenue.

She was honored by the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York, Inc. on International Women’s Day for her tireless work in the South Asian Community. She is an accomplished educator, civic and community leader. She holds a doctorate degree in psychology and has been a practicing psychologist for over 30 years.

She has also served as Vice President of Jain Center of America in New York, Executive Committee member of Association of Indian Americans (AIA), and member of Parent Council of Barnard College of Columbia University.
