My Visit to Seattle

Rain or shine, the City of Seattle, Washington, as we found it, is a perfect place for every family with history, fun, and entertainment.

Seattle was first visited by us about 10 years ago. The website www.visitseattle.org is a wonderful site providing great info for a complete planning of entertainment and family activities.

Using City Pass, we also found that it was very convenient and value-added to cover major attractions, i.e., the Space Needle, Aquarium, Argosy Cruise harbor tour, Museum of Pop Culture and Chihuly Garden.

Our first evening we spent at the Museum of Pop culture, a very unique institution with creative ideas, that offers a great collection of music, games, etc. We enjoyed exhibitions in the Guitar Gallery, Pearl Jam, Infinite world of science fiction and Nirvana, later having a nice dinner in the museum itself.

The next day morning, we started with the Space Needle, an iconic structure of a flying saucer perched atop a pinnacle. It looks different after last year’s $100 million renovation, which expanded the public-facing spaces, rotating glass floor, selfies surrounding the balcony, cantilevered glass benches tipping backward, eatery and lounge. We glided to the top of the needle for panoramic views of surrounding mountain ranges and Puget Sound and also enjoyed virtual bungee jumping from the Space Needle. Memorable photos taken at the picture spots, by an installed camera on the top, are freely downloadable from their website.

Right next door to the Space Needle, we also visited the Chihuly Glass Garden Museum. Dale Chihuly of Tacoma Washington started this ambitious exhibition of glasswork, which has been seen by more than 1 million visitors.

Amazing glasswork, serene and extraordinary beauty, with the concept of a botanical setting and fine arts is a must-see venue. We took plenty of pictures to cherish the memory.

That afternoon, we strolled over to the Pike Place Market and visited the original Starbucks for an original, unique sip of coffee.

The next day, we started near the harbor with the ride of Wings Over Washington, a flying theater for aerial adventure of most scenic and beautiful of states, Washington. My family enjoyed everything from diving down the seaside cliffs and Mt. Rainier, to the San Juan Islands, to the spectacular beauty of awe-inspiring Snoqualmie Falls, to the kaleidoscopic wonder of the Walla Walla Valley. I would suggest this one for sure, for all ages of family members.

We did not take in Seattle’s Great Wheel ride, but it seems a fun ride too on the harbor. Within walking distance, we visited the Seattle Aquarium, which explored Puget Sound and showed unique creatures including the world’s largest Octopus.

Taking the Argosy Harbor tour’s 1-hour narrated cruise, it told of the beauty and history Seattle has to offer. From the skyline to the shipping port, there’s a view for everyone in our family to enjoy.

You can also enjoy dinner on Miner’s Landing at the Fisherman’s Restaurant, which can accommodate all vegetarian and vegan needs.

Another day, the kids also enjoyed the Pacific Science Center, where you can easily spend 3-4 hours. We also explored Amazon Campus, Amazon Go Store and Amazon Spheres.

It was a very unique experience taking a Savor Seattle Food Tour, a Food and Cultural tour of Pike Place Market. The tour was very vegan and vegetarian friendly. Also found some good vegetarian and vegan plates at Anar, 8th & Olive, Cinnaholic, etc.

We stayed at one of Seattle’s first “uptown” lodgings, the historic Mayflower Hotel in the heart of the city, which opened in 1927 as the Bergonian Hotel. The rooms are very spacious and carry a history of Seattle.

Seattle offers great hiking places like Rattlesnake Ledge for views of the Cedar River watershed, Mount Si, Mont Washington, Rattlesnake Lake and Chester Morse Lake. Due to timing, we couldn’t visit Snoqualmie Falls, one of the most popular scenic attractions.

We have to come back, as a lot more has to be explored still in Seattle!
